Halloween, Hocus Pocus, and Omri Katz! Oh my!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

So what's the deal with airline food? I mean, so what's the deal with Halloween? I admit that it is pretty cool. I really like reading about how the Romans combined their traditions from this time of year with the Celts, etc. However, most candy is not too healthy for you and there are only so many cool Halloween TV shows and movies to watch.

For example, let us remember the movie "Hocus Pocus". You ask why I reference a movie that is named after "magic words" that supposedly (it is debated) derive from what a person would hear when receiving the body of Christ (Latin: hoc est enim corpus meum) in Roman Catholic Mass? (Sorry, I guess I subconsciously wanted to make that reference because those of you who remember the movie know it is not good.) Who was the target audience for that movie anyway? It has the mindset of a children's film but themes better suited for pre-teens/teens. I mention this because I saw it running on one of the "family-oriented" channels (either Disney or ABC Family) and I wondered why it was on at all.

I guess that is the bottom line: Halloween is a good time to show TV programs and movies that are not good enough to be shown regularly. Consider this: Omri Katz is much better in the TV show "Eerie, Indiana" (sorry, I could not resist mentioning it again) and that has not been shown on TV this decade. (Keep in mind, the entire series of "Eerie, Indiana" is available on DVD.) Unfortunately, Hocus Pocus shows up every Halloween showing nothing particularly outstanding. For those who have visited Salem, Massachusetts: you do remember your visit(s) there as you watch the film so that is always good.

Happy Halloween!

Article I (Article 1): Time Zones

For those of you who know me well it will not surprise you that my first post is about time zones. I saw that my "Article Zero" post has a timestamp of 2:55 PM on it and I realized that I must be posting to a server set to Google (Mountain View, California) time. I suppose that is acceptable for my purposes.

Speaking of Google (Mountain View, California) time, I guess that I really should mention that I found it interesting that Google has a tremendous presence in New York, New York as well. Sometimes I wish that I had stayed in New York City when I heard that Google had opened up shop there. Alas, I am up in New England working relatively close to Boston, Massachusetts (another technology haven) at a rapidly growing technology company that is not a "well-known name" that I think suits me well.

Speaking of time zones, did you know that Indiana finally "threw in the towel" on fighting Daylight Saving Time? The state is now split between the Central Time Zone and the Eastern Time Zone. Are you worried about that classic episode of the "Eerie, Indiana" TV show where Marshall preserves his New Jersey tradition of honoring Daylight Saving Time where he finds himself in some kind of time limbo? As long as we remember that it was applicable when it was originally aired we can tell our kids as such.

Why here? Why now?

Greetings! Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Jonathan from South Central (New Hampshire!) and I have quite a bit to say.

I got interested in blogging after seeing friends' blogs online. At first I was interested mostly from a technical perspective; however, I now see that blogging can be interesting from a non-technical perspective. I have a tendency to accumulate thoughts and then connect them in unique ways. Some people mistake this for creativity, but actually I just like to pull random thoughts together. I hope that the wide spectrum of topics I will discuss will interest a large group of fans. Therefore, I shall soon become rich and famous!

Maybe I will not become rich and/or famous soon; however, I hope that my blog is well received. I have titled it "Jonathan? Why!" for historical reasons (I will regard the original jonathan/why as "beta testing") as well as the obvious reason that the topics I choose will "span the globe" of information.
